12 Days of Donating

The holidays are the perfect time to take stock of what you have, and pass on your good fortune to others. You can be a gift that keeps on giving, making a huge difference in the lives of others. At the same time, you’ll be clearing out your home, purging things you no longer need, and making space for the new year to come.

If you’re looking for a good way to give back, try setting up 12 Days of Donating! You can do it by yourself, with your family, or with a group of friends. All you have to do is commit to donating something each day, for at least 12 days during the holiday season.

Here are a few ways you can get started

Donate Your Time

The holiday season is notoriously busy for everyone. Time becomes especially precious. Share your goodwill by offering your time to someone in need.

Instead of giving a physical gift, offer to help someone. This might mean helping a friend find the perfect present, wrapping gifts with your kids, or volunteering at a seniors’ home, school, or church. Serving up food at a soup kitchen is a great use of time during the holiday season.

The gift of your time will go a long way during the crazy rush of the holidays. You can get your friends or family on board by asking them to volunteer with you.

Donate Your Items

Donating is a wonderful way to clean up your house without overloading the landfill! Put at least two items a day in a box set aside for donations. Ask your family to do the same as you work through each room of your home.

If you’re not using something, and it’s in good shape, it might be perfect for donating. Book donations, clothes donations, toy donations, and other household items are all welcome.

At the end of the 12 days, pack up the box and have Pickup Please collect it on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Pickup Please pays VVA for your donated items, which generates support for VVA’s charitable programs. Pickup Please makes it easy for you to schedule a donation pickup.

After this 12-day challenge, you might find that donating becomes a more important part of your life. Whatever the season, giving makes you feel good, and helps you make a positive impact.

Consider making donating part of your everyday routine. Whether you are donating your time or your household items to a service like Pickup Please, donating your household items is a wonderful thing to do.
